This page explains which cookies www.tardix.net uses, who sets them, what they are for and how long they last. You can also see the answer you gave and change it whenever you like.

A cookie is a small file a website saves in your browser when you visit it, so that the browser can remember something between one page and the next, or between one visit and the next.

This site stores two different sorts of thing on your device, and they are not quite the same:

  • Cookies proper, which the browser sends back to the matching server on every request. Here only Google Analytics sets any, and only if you allow it.
  • Local storage, where we keep your answer to the cookie notice and where the carbon badge keeps its last reading. Local storage is never sent anywhere: it stays in the browser and the server never sees it. It is in the table below because it is still something we keep on your device, even though technically it is not a cookie.

Categories

Necessary. These make the site work and remember what you answered in the cookie notice. Without them you would have to answer again on every page. They cannot be switched off and they are not used to track you.

Analytics. These tell us how many visits the site gets and which pages are read, in aggregate, so we can decide what is worth explaining better. The same category covers the Website Carbon badge in the footer, which reports roughly how much CO2 loading this page costs. Neither loads until you accept.

We use no advertising or social-network cookies and we share nothing with advertisers. If that ever changes, it will appear in this table and in the notice before anything loads.

Google asks for two years for the two _ga entries, but current browsers do not grant it: Chrome caps any cookie set from JavaScript at 400 days, and these are. The duration you will actually see in the browser is the one in the table.

That table is the complete list. Until you accept the analytics category, the only one of the four that exists on your device is tardix-consent, and only from the moment you answer the notice.

How to change your mind

There are three ways:

  • Change your selection in the Your consent block on this page.
  • Withdraw consent there entirely, which deletes your answer along with any analytics cookies, and brings the notice back.
  • Clear the cookies and site data from your browser, which leaves everything as it was the first time.

In the first two cases we delete any _ga cookies and reload the page, so Google’s code stops running immediately.

Who processes the data

The analytics data is processed by Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) as a processor, and may be transferred outside the European Union and the United Kingdom under the EU-US and UK-US Data Privacy Frameworks. Google also offers a browser add-on that turns Google Analytics off on every site that uses it.

Accepting analytics also means Google Analytics may contact its own advertising domains — stats.g.doubleclick.net and google.com/ads/ga-audiences — if Google Signals is enabled on the property. Those requests set no cookies and carry the non-personalised and anonymise-IP flags, but your IP address and the page address do reach them. Nothing of the kind happens before you accept.

The carbon badge sends the address of the page you are on to api.websitecarbon.com in order to look up its rating. It sets no cookies and identifies no one.
